Math Power, Black Brilliance: Shaping the Future Together
Mathematics is more than numbers; it’s the foundation of opportunity and social power. From the careers we pursue to the policies that shape our lives, math is everywhere. Yet, Black students remain underserved and underestimated in this critical area.
At the Benjamin Banneker Association, we believe in rewriting this story. Inspired by Bob Moses’ call to make math access the civil rights issue of our time, we’re building pathways for Black students to see themselves as brilliant and empowered problem-solvers.
Our work focuses on two powerful initiatives:
1. BBA Teacher Cohort: Supporting Black math teachers with resources to provide culturally relevant and high-quality instruction.
2. Mathematical Heritage and Brilliance Initiative: Offering students a space to develop mathematical confidence, honor the legacy of Black brilliance, and realize their potential.
